Position: Church Bus/Van Driver
General Statement of Duties: The van driver will perform work in the operation of the vehicle to assure safe transportation of the passengers to and from various destinations and to assist the passengers on entry and exit from the vehicles as necessary. In addition, the use of the Mount Zion Baptist Church of Holmesburg’s Church Van is restricted to church activities which have been previously approved. These activities defined as being used by and for the Mount Zion Baptist Church of Holmesburg (MTZ) and its congregation. This will also include activities sponsored by the church ministries/disciples of Mount Zion. The driver must have the ability to follow oral and written instructions, the ability to operate and lift equipment and to secure wheelchairs and other mobility devices. The driver must have a working knowledge of the rules and regulations involved in the safe and efficient operation of the automotive equipment. The driver must have the ability to operate a small bus or van.
Duties/Job Responsibilities of the Van Driver: (1) The van will always be driven by an authorized and licensed driver. The driver will be responsible for maintaining his/her license. (2) The driver is responsible for making sure that all passengers are to remain seated when the van is in motion. (3) Emergency contact information, names and phone numbers will be provided to all drivers. In the event of an emergency the driver must contact the designated church contacts. a. The use of tobacco products (smoking), alcohol or any drugs by the driver will result in immediate termination of employment. b. The driver is to make sure that the use of tobacco products (smoking), alcohol, drugs and offensive music or language is not allowed in the van. (4) The driver will not loan the van out for any use. (5) The driver will be responsible for reporting damage, operational problems, etc. of the van to the van coordinator or the Trustee’s office immediately. The trustee shall oversee maintenance and repairs of the van. (6) The driver will know and understand the emergency procedures to follow if involved in an accident or operational problem, etc. which would jeopardize the safety of the passengers. (7) The driver is to speak with the Van Coordinator to obtain the names of the passengers who will be attending morning worship service. They will be picked up from their residences and returned home following service unless there are other activities that members/passengers wish to attend. If so, the driver will kindly wait for them. (8) The driver will always inspect the exterior of the van. For example, making sure that the tires are properly inflated. If there are any problems, they should kindly report them to the van coordinator/trustees before making the trip. This must be recorded while driving if there are any problems noticed with the tires, brakes or engine they should be reported to the van coordinator/trustees as soon as possible. If the driver feels that the van is not in a drivable, safe condition, he/she will execute the necessary precautions to avoid harm or danger to the passengers or themselves. (9) The gas payment is to be arranged for the driver by the Trustees. (10) The driver is responsible for picking up the keys and returning them to the church. (11) The driver as well as the passenger is responsible for keeping the interior of the van clean. Please remind the passengers to do so. (12) It is strongly suggested that the driver always keeps a cell phone handy. (13) The van driver must exercise independent judgment in handling unusual situations arising with passengers. (14) The driver will assist passengers in getting in and out of the van as well as other courtesies. (15) The driver will assist passengers in securing wheelchairs and other mobility devices. (16) The driver is responsible for seeing that the van is returned to the church parking lot with the gas tank indicator at least half full. (17) The driver is responsible for completing the Van Trip Sheet before he or she finishes the job for the day. (18) the driver will be dressed in a neat and professional manner. (This attire will be provided by the church). (19) If the driver is running late for any pick-ups, they must notify the van coordinator. (20) The vehicles are available to Mount Zion’s members and its disabled. Non-members must be pre-registered to ride. (21) Any church ministry has approval and authority to use the van. The request for use of the van must be submitted on an “Application for Use of Church Van” form. (22) Point of Origin: The van will leave and return to the church parking lot. The van will be parked in the designated parking area. (23) Trip Supervision: It is the responsibility of the group or trip sponsor using the van to provide the proper adult supervision. (24) Outside use of the Van: The van will not be available to individuals or outside groups or organizations. (25) All vehicle PA Inspection and registration will be coordinated with the driver and the Board of Trustees
